Title:
TOOL BREAKAGE DETECTOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS61217761
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To monitor abnormal cutting accurately, by adjusting the sensitivity of an acoustic emission (AE) sensor to the optimum value based on the signal level from a pseudo abnormal cutting signal generator to detect the abnormal condition caused by entangling of chips on the tool regardless of the size of the tool used.

CONSTITUTION: An AE signal processing section 7 identify abnormal cutting of a tool based on the output signal of an AE sensor 6. A pseudo abnormal cutting signal generator 4 generates a pseudo abnormal cutting signal containing the frequency of an AE signal obtained with abnormal cutting of the tool. With the generator 4, a pseudo abnormal cutting signal is applied to a machine tool and based on the level thereof, a signal processing is done at the sensitivity of the AE sensor adjusted to the optimum value while the detection level of the abnormal cutting signal is adjusted. Thus, abnormal cutting can be always detected at a desired level regardless of the difference of the tool used.
