PURPOSE: To carry out the direct detection of abrasion and a damage of the tool in process of the cutting work, by providing an output means to output various information such as a warning based on the judement result by a damage judging means to judge the level of abrasion and a damage of the cutting tool during rotation.
CONSTITUTION: The abrasion and the damage condition of at least one side of the cutting face and the flank of a throwaway chip 10 in a cutting tool 1 during rotation is detected by a damage detector 32. The judging level of the detecting signal output from a signal detector 34 to detect the signal output from the damage detector 32 is determined by a condition setting means 35. Furthermore, based on the detecting signal from the signal detecting means 34, and under the comparison with the judging level set by the condition setting means 35, the level of the abrasion and the damage of the cutting tool 1 is judged by a damage judging means 36. Based on this judgement result, various information including a warning is outputted from an output means 37.
