Title:
TOOL FOR WORKING CARBON
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01103205
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the abrasion resistance of a tool for working carbon by forming a ceramics complex material consisting of alumina matrix containing silicon carbide whiskers in 5W50vol.%.

CONSTITUTION: The sintering auxiliary such as MgO is added into a prescribed quantity of alumina having a particle size of 0.1W2μm, and said mixture is pulverized in humid form by adding water or volatile medium, and a prescribed quantity of silicon carbide whiskers which are pulverized to a diameter of 0.5W2.5μm and a length of 10W80μm by a hot mill, etc., are added and mixed, and the silicon carbide is uniformly dispersed into the alumina. After the water or the volatile medium used in the humid mixing is removed or evaporated, the mixture is dried and granulated, and baked by a hot press, etc., by selecting the pressure so that the theoretical density ratio of the composite material becomes 98% or more, and cutting edge work is executed by a diamond tool, etc. When the content of the silicon carbide whiskers is 5W50vol.%, the destruction toughness of the ceramic complex material represents the best value.
