A synthetic monofilament 4 having a tapered shape, which is constituted in such a manner that bristle diameters d0.1, d1 and d3 at respective locations being 0.1 mm, 1 mm and 3 mm from the taper tip end are respectively set to rates of 5-35%, 35-60% and 60-90% to a bristle diameter D at the maximum base section of the synthetic monofilament, is used. The hardness of the bristle at a location of 0.1 mm from the taper tip end of the synthetic monofilament is set within 10% of the hardness of the bristle at a location of 3 mm from the taper tip end.
