PURPOSE: To obtain polycrystalline diamond products having reduced defects and stress by reducing the size of voids to form a diamond body which have the reduced density and stress gradients.
CONSTITUTION: The chemically vapor deposited diamond body is a kind of one having voids. The diamond body is treated at high temp. and pressure enough for becoming the diamond thermodynamically stable phase to reduce the size of voids and to form a diamond body having reduced density and stress gradients. The high temp. and pressure condition are provided to include the range of temp. of 1,000-2,500°C and pressure of 120 GPa. The raw material of diamond body is provided to contain impurities or objective additives of less than 4000 ppm. By these regulation, qualities of low-pressured, chemically vapor deposited(CVD) diamond are improved.
