To obtain a tourmaline member which is not affected by the electrical resistance of a carrier, does not require a special production apparatus, is low in cost, and can cause an electrode action to efficiently and stably occur in tourmaline by dispersing a fine tourmaline powder having a specific particle size in a water-absorbing polymer.
This member is obtd. by dispersing a fine tourmaline powder 2 having an outer size of 0.3-40 μm in a water-absorbing polymer. It is most effective when tourmaline in an amt of 0.5-80 wt.% of the polymer is mixed into the polymer in the state of before water absorption and has been dispersed in the state of after water absorption. As a practical water-absorbing polymer, a poly(sodium acrylate)based water-absorbing polymer is the most suitable since it can absorb several to several hundred times as much water and, in the state of a swollen gel, can keep the powder to be dispsersed in the state of being in contact with water.
