PURPOSE: To provide a train seat information system which can give information in advance about how the seats are occupied for any applicable train which a person is going to get on.

CONSTITUTION: A seat information collecting device 6 for collecting the seat information of train 2 is installed at least one in each train 2, while a display device 8 to display the empty seat information collected thereby 6 is installed at each of the stations 4 which the applicable train 2 passes, wherein the two types of devices 6, 8 are coupled together via a communication network 10, and the seat information collecting device 6 consists of ticket reading machines 12, which are provided at all seats 16 of each car 3 of trains 2 and read the information attached to the ticket, and a totalizing machine 14 which is fed with different pieces of information from the seats 16 read by the ticket reading machine 12 and totalizes the empty seat situation on the basis of these pieces of information.
