To provide an identification method of a compound useful as an anti-infective agent that decreases resistance, virulence or growth of microbes.

A microbial cell including (1) a selectable marker under the control of a transcription factor responsive sequence and (2) a transcription factor is brought into contact with a compound under conditions which allow interaction of the compound with the microbial cell, and the ability of the compound to affect the growth or survival of the microbial cell is measured as an indication of whether the test compound modulates the activity of the transcription factor.
