To provide a transfer paper whereby it is possible to print without causing paper jams or damaging devices even when images to be transferred are printed using a printing apparatus of the oil-free toner type, and to provide a transfer printing method using the transfer paper.

The transfer paper comprises: a base paper 1; a water-soluble adhesive layer 2 laminated on the base paper 1; a synthetic resin layer 3 laminated on the water-soluble adhesive layer 2; and an anti-adhesion-ink carrying portion 21 carried and printed in a region having a width of 4 to 7 mm from the four sides of the outer periphery of the synthetic resin layer 3.
