A transferring device comprises: a secondary transferring section 10 for transferring an image to a transfer material 12 below a virtual horizontal plane perpendicular to a virtual vertical plane passing through a rotational axis of a transfer roller 9 in a vertical direction; a carrier liquid application roller 14d that is brought into contact with the transfer roller 9 and is stopped when a rotation of the transfer roller 9 is stopped while applying carrier liquid to the transfer roller 9 above the secondary transferring section 10 in the vertical direction; and a transfer roller cleaning roller 15b of which a peripheral surface moving downward from above in the vertical direction is brought into contact with the transfer roller 9 and cleans the transfer roller 9 above a contact position of the carrier liquid application roller 14d in the vertical direction.
