Abstract:

To provide a method for removing heavy metals from soil, rivers, lakes and marshes, mud, or the like, by a biological method.

This method for cleaning a medium containing heavy metals comprises growing transformed living organisms enhanced with an absorbing and storing capability for the heavy metals by incorporating a gene encoding thymosin while bringing them in contact with a heavy metals-containing medium, and thereby absorbing and storing the heavy metals in the medium into the transformed living organisms to remove the heavy metals.
