PURPOSE: To efficiently switch a transmission mode by previously patterning a frame synchronizing signal according to transmitted media information, a media transmission speed or an encoding rate and so on and using said signal.
CONSTITUTION: One frame is composed of a frame synchronizing pattern A, and media #1 and #2, and forms the transmission mode (a). If three media are arranged in increasing order, a frame synchronizing pattern B is added to form the transmission mode (b). If four media are given, a frame synchronizing pattern C is added to form the transmission mode (c). In such a way the frame synchronizing signals are patterned according to the number of media and their order, and the frame synchronizing pattern is detected to decide the transmission mode. The probability to mistakenly detect the frame synchronizing pattern, which is caused by a wrong bit on a transmission line at the time of acquiring frame synchronization, become maximum between the patterns A and C.
