PURPOSE: To enable an interrupting vehicle to smoothly cut in so as to prevent dangers such as a collision and so as to prevent deterioration in driving feeling by carrying out control to a slow deceleration condition, when an interrupting vehicle is detected in following travel control or constant speed travel control.
CONSTITUTION: An image photographed by a stereoscopic vision camera 1 is processed, and a vehicle interval between the previous vehicle and its own vehicle is recognized by a vehicle distance recognizing unit 61c. When the target following vehicle is recognized by a target following vehicle recognizing unit 62, following travel control is carried out by a setting command unit 63. In other words, a vehicle interval D is found by means of a laser radar 2, while the set time is added to a vehicle speed detected by a vehicle speed sensor 7 so that a target vehicle interval D0 is found, and an engine rotational speed is controlled so that D=D0 is satisfied. When existence of an interrupting vehicle is detected during the following travel control, vehicle speed maintaining control, or constant speed travel control, a shift to interruption control is carried out, and control, in which a throttle valve is fully closed for the fixed time, is carried out, and consequently, a slow deceleration condition, in which an engine brake works, is provided.
