To provide a treating method and treating apparatus for infectious medical wastes capable of treating the infectious medical wastes by easily subjecting these wastes to sterilizing treatment in such a manner that the infec tious medical wastes can be handled as general wastes.

This apparatus includes an electron beam irradiation region 11 enclosed by shielding walls for shielding electron beams, a carrying-in path 12, a carrying-out path 13, an electron beam irradiation device 10 installed in the electron beam irradiation region 11 and a carrying mechanism 15 for carrying the objects to be irradiated in and out through the carrying-in path 12 and the carrying-out path 13. The infectious medical wastes 17, which are housed in a container for irradiation of the shape and dimensions suitable for irradiation with the electron beams or are packaged to the shape and dimensions described above, are carried into the electron beam irradiation regions 11 by the carrying mechanism 15 and the infectious medical wastes 17 are subjected to the sterilizing treatment by irradiation with the electron beams from the electron beam irradiation device 10. The treated wastes are carried out by the carrying mechanism 15.
