To reuse a waste plastic as a liq. fuel which is combustible stably for a long term even on an ordinary combustion apparatus by thermally melting a waste plastic in the presence of an org. peroxide to decrease the mol.wt. and mixing and dissolving the resultant product into a liq. fuel.
Waste plastic moldings comprising a styrene resin or a polystyrene foam having an expansion ratio of 1.1-80 are melted and formed into pellets or granules. The pellets or granules are mixed with 100-5,000ppm org. peroxide having a 1-min half-life temp. of 140°C or higher and thermally melted at 160-300°C on a melt extruder to decrease the mol.wt. The resultant low-mol.- wt. plastic in the form of a melt or pellets is mixed and dissolved in a liq. fuel having an arom. index fa of 0.5 or higher. Because of the low mol. wt., thus treated plastic can be mixed in a higher concn. than conventionally possible with a small increase in viscosity, enabling the reuse as a liq. fuel on an ordinary combustion apparatus.
