To treat the subject complex by lowering a HF/amine ratio to separate out the amine, inhibiting the loss of the amine and the HF and suitably and profitably performing the addition of HF to an alkene halide without polluting environments, in the reaction of the alkene halide with the complex.
In the reaction of (A) a liquid tertiary amine hydrofluoride complex of the formula: (R1R2R2N.nHF) [R1, R2 and R3 are each a (branched) 1-8C alkyl, wherein the total carbon atom number is ≥7; 1.5<(n)<3] (for example, the complex in which the amine R1R2R3N is tri-n-butylamine) with (B) a compound of the formula: R4CF=CR5R6 (R4 is F, CF3 or C2F5; R5 is F, Cl or CF3; R6 is H, F or a perfluoro 1-4C alkyl), the molar ratio HF:R1R2R3N is allowed to fall until amine separates out as a further liquid phase, and the amine is separated off.
