PURPOSE: Glycosides in plants are extracted with a supercritical or subcritical fluid after or at the same time of hydrolysis into the saccharide moiety and the aglycon moiety whereby the aglycon moiety is separated with industrial advantage.
CONSTITUTION: Raw plant bodies are hydrolyzed into the saccharide moiety and the aglycon moiety with an acid, alkali or an enzyme, directly or after drying, cutting and crushing. Then, the hydrolysis product is subjected to extraction 4 with a supercritical or subcritical fluid, preferably carbon dioxide 1 at 60W350kg/cm2 and 25W70°C, preferably in combination with an extraction auxiliary 8 such as a low alcohol and/or water. The aglycon extracted in the fluid is separated 6 under conditions where the pressure is preferably 1W200kg/cm2 and the temperature is 30W100°C whereby aglycon which is used in the field of medicines is obtained in high efficiency. The hydrolysis and the extraction may be conducted simultaneously.
