To provide a method for safely and effectively performing an insecticidal and/or ovicidal treatment of grain four or a dry grain-derived product by a simple means without deteriorating the food or the food product.
This method comprises subjecting the grain flour or the dry grain-derived product to mildly freezing treatment at a temperature of -18°C or lower to exterminate insect pests and/or their ova contaminated in the above food or the food product without deteriorating it. Because of enabling the treatment at such a temperature range as to be -18°C or lower, the treatment can be made within the temperature range for ordinary freezing equipment, furthermore, because of making the treatment by mild freezing, the grain flour or the dry grain-derived product relatively poor in heat transfer can be relatively mass-treated, in addition to the advantage of being easy to control freezing treatment temperature.
