To provide a treatment method for slag by which a high-temperature CaO-containing slag can be cooled without producing alkali water, and can be carbonated simultaneously, and also the scattering of dust can be suppressed.
The high-temperature slag exhausted from a furnace or a pan is primarily cooled, and, in a state where the slag near the inlet side of a cooling apparatus 10 such as a rotary cooler lies in a high temperature of 800C, water spraying is performed, and it is rapidly cooled. The water gas reaction of C+H2OCO+H2 and the shift reaction of CO+H2OCO2+H2 occurring at this time are simultaneously progressed, so as to produce a carbon dioxide gas. The produced carbon dioxide gas is exhausted to the outlet side of the slag, and is made in contact with the slag cooled to the vicinity of ordinary temperature for a long time, thus CaO in the slag is carbonated to produce a stable CaCO3.
