To provide an apparatus for treating a floor bedding material for an animal so as to be recyclable.

The apparatus 1 for treating the floor bedding material 2 is used by inserting the used floor bedding material 2 for the laboratory animal into a treating chamber 3, and feeding steam having a pressure lower than the saturated vapor pressure from a steam-generating chamber 4 to the treating chamber 3. The floor bedding material 2 is heated and thermally decomposed by the steam having the pressure lower than the saturated vapor pressure in the treating chamber 3, and the decomposed material is dried, deodorized and sterilized. The extracted gas generated by the thermal decomposition and discharged from the treating chamber 3 is separated at a separation chamber 5 to a liquid-phase gas and a vapor-phase gas, and each thereof is collected individually at collecting chambers 6. As a result, the floor bedding material for the animal is recycled by using the steam having the pressure lower than the saturated vapor pressure.
