To provide both a method for treating a smelt, capable of efficiently separating sodium carbonate from a smelt of a black liquor formed in recovery boiler of kraft pulp without supplying energy from the outside and freely changing the concentration ratio of sodium carbonate and sodium sulfide and to a method for producing a kraft pulp.
This method for treating a smelt of a black liquor comprises (i) a green liquor A forming process throwing a smelt into a saturated aqueous solution of sodium carbonate, cooling and dispersing the smelt and dissolving only sodium sulfide in smelt components in the saturated aqueous solution of sodium carbonate, (ii) a green A diluting process for separating a green liquor A from the undissolved residue of the smelt and diluting the green liquid A with water, (iii) a process for preparing a saturated aqueous solution of sodium carbonate by dissolving part of the separated undissolved residue, (iv) a green liquor B forming process for dissolving the rest of the separated undissolved residue of the smelt in water and substantially obtaining a green solution containing only sodium carbonate and (v) a green liquor causticization process for causticizing the green liquor to give kraft white liquor.
