Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect lives, properties and houses from a tsunami that could attack unexpectedly, at the same time preserving coastal landscape by avoiding height increase of a levee, preventing destruction of natural environment, enriching a marine biological system, and mitigating a huge cost for levee construction by continue using the existing levee.SOLUTION: A piloti is formed underneath a house by a coast, with a front surface of a plurality of columns supporting the piloti formed to minimize mechanical resistance, thereby drawing in tsunami water inside the building and let the water pass quickly. Buildings having such a structure are lined up along the coast.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
