To produce a tufted pile carpet resistant to falling off of pile and having high shape stability by tufting a pile yarn to a base cloth comprising a web sheet produced by using a crimped non-elastic polyester short fiber aggregate as a matrix and dispersing and mixing elastic conjugate fibers in the matrix.
Elastic conjugate short fibers having a non-elastic polyester as the core part and a thermoplastic polyester elastomer having a melting point lower than that of the core polymer by 40-110°C as the sheath part are dispersed and mixed in a matrix comprising a crimped non-elastic polyester short fiber aggregate and optionally the obtained dispersion is incorporated with ≤30wt.% of a low-melting non-elastic polyester short fibers having a melting point lower than that of the above polyester elastomer by 10-150°C. The back face of the obtained web is raised to produce a base cloth having a thickness of 1-15mm and a density of 0.05-0.15g/cm3. The base cloth is tufted with polyester pile yarns and heat-treated to obtain the objective cut pile carpet containing flexible heat-bonded points formed by the thermal fusion of the elastic conjugate fiber or the low-melting polyester fiber and the crimped non- elastic polyester fiber in a state sporadically dispersed in the carpet.
