To seal a space between a seal chamber and a roll or a side weir in an approximately perfect manner.
The upper surface 64 of a side weir 26 is as tall as a conjugate tangential line 32 of the upper side of a pair of rolls 24, 25, and the width 33 of the side weir 26 is longer than the distance 34 between the centers of the rolls 24, 25, an extension part extending to the outer surface position of the side weir 26 is formed on each end in the longitudinal direction of a gas seal plate 52, and its lower end is brought into contact with the position of the contact point 55 with the conjugate tangential line 32 on the upper surface 64 of body parts of the rolls 24, 25 and the side weir 26. Thus, the lower part of the seal chamber, i.e., the lower end part of the gas seal plate 52 and a horizontal part 74 at the lower end of an end wall forming member 66 are located in the same horizontal plane, and form the continuous rectangular shape, and no clearance is made below the seal chamber, especially at a corner part to obtain an approximately perfect sealed condition.
