PURPOSE: To reduce power consumption and to efficiently eliminate a gel by forming the cooling passage of the part corresponding to an apex of the first stage cooling passage of a barrel independently of other part in a two-stage twin-screw kneader.
CONSTITUTION: The gel eliminating action in the first kneading part B of a two-stage twin-screw kneader is obtained by passing the material such as a polypropylene block copolymer sent to the first kneading part B from a first screw supply part A by the rotation of a rotor 26 through the chip clearance between the inner wall surface of a barrel 25 and the apex 29 of the rotor 26 to apply shearing force to said clearance. Only the cooling passage 1 corresponding to the part of the apex 29 contributing to the elimination of a gel is selected and water is allowed to flow to said passage 1 to perform water cooling operation. By this constitution, the temp. rise of the material at the part of the apex 29 is suppressed and the material is held to a state highest in viscosity and receiving high shearing force and beginning to melt and a gel can be efficiently eliminated.
