PURPOSE: To enable the character-train from a character on a present carriage position to a character required to be erased lastly to be erased at a high speed correctly, automatically and continuously, by a method wherein, if a designated character is present on the present carriage position, it is erased and the continuous erasing action is stopped.

CONSTITUTION: By the operation of a character key, the result of judgment is turned to be YES, and the code of a designated character 'K' is stored in a designated character memory 64. Whether a character is present on a present carriage position is judged, and if not, a carriage is moved leftwards by the amount of one character, and the judgment is again performed. If any character is present, whether the character is the same as the designated character stored in the designated character memory 64 is judged. If the character on the carriage position is not the same as the designated character 'K', the character on the position is erased, and the carriage is moved leftwards by the amount of one character. If the character is determined as the designated character, the designated character 'K' on the carriage position is erased, and a series of actions terminate.
