To solve the problem that, since biotissue is measured by detecting an echo of an ultrasonic pulse reflected on a boundary surface between a subcutaneous fat tissue and a muscular tissue to return, the biotissue of the subcutaneous fat in the surface later of an organism can be measured, but the biotissue of visceral fat in a deeper later of the organism should be obtained by another measuring method and it can not be easily estimated.
This ultrasonic biotissue measuring apparatus includes an ultrasonic wave transmit/receive means for detecting an ultrasonic wave transmitted through the biotissue in an organism and emitted from another position in the surface of the organism, a transmission distance measuring means for obtaining the transmission distance of the transmitted ultrasonic wave, a frequency characteristic calculating means for obtaining the frequency characteristic of the decay rate of the ultrasonic wave caused by transmission of the biotissue according to the transmission distance measured by the transmission distance measuring means and the ultrasonic wave detected by the ultrasonic wave transmit/receive means, and a thickness index calculating means for obtaining an index to the thickness of the biotissue in the organism from the frequency characteristic.
