PURPOSE: To enable the detection of obstruction within the range of 90° by providing three sets of ultrasonic distance measuring circuit means consisting of ultrasonic elements and ultrasonic distance measuring circuits, a mounting member formed of baffle plates for holding the ultrasonic elements, and a judging means for judging the presence of obstruction.
CONSTITUTION: An ultrasonic obstruction sensor is formed of three sets of ultrasonic distance measuring means 3 consisting of ultrasonic elements 1 and ultrasonic distance measuring circuits 2, a mounting member 3 formed of three baffle plates holding the ultrasonic elements 1 in the front direction and in the laterally symmetric 45° inside directions to the front direction, respectively, and an obstruction judging means 4 for judging the presence of obstruction by the output of the ultrasonic distance measuring means. Obstructions present within the range of ±L1 from the front direction can be detected by the front directional ultrasonic distance measuring means. As to the lateral two sets, obstructions within the range of L1 in the inside directions and L2 in the outside directions can be detected. As the mounting member performs the role of horn, obstructions within the range of the angle formed by the mounting member, or 90° can be detected.
