Abstract:
To provide an underwater communication system and an underwater communication method that can communicate a large volume of data over a longer distance.SOLUTION: An underwater communication system 1 includes a transmitting device and a receiving device. The transmitting device includes: a laser light source 101; a collimator lens 104 for collimating laser light; an optical deflector 106 for deflecting the collimated laser light B10; an acoustic communication unit; and a control unit 11 for controlling the optical deflector 106 based on control information received via the acoustic communication unit. The receiving device includes: an optical deflector 201 for changing a receiving direction of the laser light; a branching element 202 for branching an optical path of the laser light; an optical detector 204 for receiving laser light B11 that is one that has branched; an image sensor 205 that receives laser light B12 that is the other that has branched; an acoustic communication unit; and a control unit 21 that causes the acoustic communication unit to transmit control information controlling a transmission direction of the laser light B10 based on an output signal of the image sensor 205.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
