To provide a unit fuel cell which can contribute stable operation for a fuel cell even under condition of low or non humidification by moving redundant water in the downstream side to the upstream side short of water and making water distribution in the unit fuel cell uniform.
A unit fuel cell 1 comprises: a film electrode junction 2, an oxygen electrode and a fuel electrode of which are formed on one surface and the other surface of a solid polymer electrolyte film respectively; a pair of gas passage forming members 3 placed on the both sides of the film electrode junction 2; and a pair of reactant gas passages 4, which are formed between the film electrode junction 2 and each gas passage forming member 3, and through which a reactant gas is supplied where the gas passage forming member 3 is made of a porous body material. Further, an upstream side water keeping body 5 and a downstream side water keeping body 6 are arranged on the upstream side and the downstream side of the gas passage forming member 3 in the flow direction of the reactant gas, and the upstream side water keeping body 5 and the downstream side water keeping body 6 keep the amount of water in the film electrode junction 2.
