Abstract:
PURPOSE: To use, as a working fluid for a heat pump system, a specific fluorinated hydrocarbon which contains no chlorine, is excellent in environmetal protection, and can be prepd. at a high purity and economically in a high yield without the necessity for hardly available starting materials and reagents.
CONSTITUTION: This fluorinated hydrocarbon is 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutane, 1,1,2,2,3,3-hexafluorocyclopentane or 1,2-di(trifluoromethyl)cyclobutane and is represented by formula I [wherein Rf" is CF3 or two Rf" groups combine with each other to form -CF2-CF2-CF2- or -CH(CF3)-CH(CF3)-]. The compd. of formula I is prepd. by catalytically hydrogenating a compd. of formula II (wherein X is H, F, Cl or Br; Y is F, Cl or Br; and Rf is Rf") with hydrogen in the presence of a base [e.g. an alkali or alkaline earth metal (hydr)oxide].
