PURPOSE: To enable a white pigment, especially TiO2 in a paint to be substituted with a substance lower in specific gravity and cost by using a crosslinked polymer microparticle having a specific range of an average particle diameter and Tg.
CONSTITUTION: A crosslinked polymer microparticle having an average particle diameter of at most 5 μm and a glass transition temperature of at least +30°C is used as filler in a water-based paint composition and/or as a partial substitute material for a white pigment, especially TiO2. According to this crosslinked polymer microparticle, in a paint, particularly in a water-based electrodeposition composition for automobiles and a filler paint, TiO2 can be substituted with the substance lower in specific density and cost without deteriorating various properties of the paint such as coating workability, flow properties, anit-pelling properties, anticorrosion and adhesion to an intermediate layer.
