Abstract:
The method characteristically comprises a step in which a material that includes at least one hydrocarbon-based polymer is added to the charge to be melted. This step is advantageously implemented immediately before starting the burner. The added material can also comprise fossil fuels and metal or nonmetal alloys. The subject polymer preferably comprises unfoamed polystyrene, polyethylene, or polypropylene, or a combination thereof. The use of material comprising at least one hydrocarbon-based polymer in a method for melting metals or nonmetals has the effect of enhancing the thermal yield and/or inhibiting oxidation of the elements constituting the charge to be melted.
