Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving pharmacokinetics of a drug metabolized by cytochrome P450 monooxygenase and a method for inhibiting a retroviral protease, in particular, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for inhibiting HIV protease comprising coadministration of ritonavir {(2S,3S,5S)-5-(N-(N-((N-methyl-N-((2-isopropyl-4-thiazolyl)methyl)amino)carbonyl)-L-valinyl)amino)-2-(N-((5-thiazolyl)methoxycarbonyl)amino)-1,6-diphenyl-3-hydroxyhexane} with an HIV protease inhibitor including saquinavir, indinavir and nelfinavir, which is metabolized by cytochrome P450 monooxygenase. Also provided is a method for improving the pharmacokinetics of HIV protease inhibitors.
