PURPOSE: To record a UTOC information in a UTOC area without a miss.

CONSTITUTION: When a recording and reproducing minidisc 1 is loaded into a set, a system controller 20 reads a UTOC information from a UTOC area by an optical pickup, an RF amplifier 7 and a digital signal processing circuit 9 and stores the information in a RAM 21. When a REC key or a track drivein key is pushed, a new track is added to the UTOC information of the RAM 21. When a STOP key is pushed, a recording is stopped, each section of the set is controlled, a UTOC area is searched and the UTOC information in the RAM 21 is recorded into a UTOC area by the circuit 9, a head driver 6 and a recording head 5. After that, the UTOC information is read from the UTOC area, the information is checked whether it is coincident with the UTOC information to be recorded or not. If they are not coincident to each other by a shock, for example, the UTOC information is recorded in the UTOC area again.
