Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent production of dust or electrostatic charges in the production process, to decrease the production cost and to obtain an oriented film showing an enough pretilt angle in a short time by using a UV-crosslinking compd. of a specified chemical formula.
CONSTITUTION: This UV-crosslinking compd. is expressed by formula. In formula, n is an integer and X is an element selected from F, Cl, Br, I, CN. When X is F, for example, the compd. is called polyvinyl=4-(4-fluorobenzyloxy) cinnamate, and when X is Cl, the compd. is called polyvinyl=4-(4- chlorobenzyloxy) cinnamate. By using this UV-crosslinking compd., it properly reacts with UV ray from a UV radiation source and has high absorption coefft., it shows extremely high photosensitivity. Therefore, the crosslinking reaction is caused in a short time. By using this compd. for an orienting of a liquid crystal display element, enough orientation treatment can be done with irradiation of polarized UV rays in a short time.
