Title:
UV-STABILIZATION OF POLYMER USING NITRO COMPOUND
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH03149241
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To highly stabilize a polyolefin against UV by using an easily synthesizable compound having a high UV stabilizing effect by mixing the polyolefin with an effective amount of a hindered C-nitro compound having a molecular weight higher than a specified value.

CONSTITUTION: A polyolefin is mixed with an effective amount of a hindered C-nitro compound {e.g. a compound having the group of formula I [where R1 is H, a (substituted) alkyl or a (substituted) cycloalkyl; and n is 1-4] or a compound having the group of formula II (wherein R1 and n are as defined above)} having a molecular weight of about 500. Thus, the polyolefin can be stabilized against photooxidative deterioration. These hindered C.nitro compounds are advantageous in that they show UV stabilizing effects higher than those of many commercially available UV stabilizers and that they can be easily synthesized.
