To equalize compression ratio change amount of a right and a left bank when a multilink type variable compression ratio mechanism is applied to a V-type internal combustion engine.
This engine is provided with: an upper link 4; a lower link 3; a control link 5; a control shaft 6 oscillatably supporting the other end of the control link 5; and a multilink mechanism variably controlling an engine compression ratio by relatively changing an oscillation center position of the control link 5. Link geometries constructed by each link 3, 4, 5 are the same for a right and a left bank 18, 19 if heights of pistons in cylinders are the same, and are set to overlap each other when they are rotated around a rotation axis of a crankshaft by a bank angle. The control shaft 6 is moved to draw acircular arc locus around the rotation axis of the crankshaft 1 to change engine compression ratio.
