Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce carburizing treatment time for a Cr and/or Mn-containing steel parts made of SCR material, SCM material, SNCM material, stainless steel or the like, and to form a uniform carburized layer without complicating equipment and increasing the cost.
SOLUTION: In the vacuum carburizing treatment for the Cr and/or Mn- containing steel parts, the steel parts are heated to a carburizing temperature in a nonoxidizing atmosphere, then held under the feed of gaseous hydrocarbon and at the carburizing temperature under the pressure capable of reducing Cr oxide or Mn oxide for a prescribed time. Thereafter, a prescribed amount of carburizing gas is fed to carbonize the steel parts under the reduced pressure.
