To provide a vacuum induction furnace capable of easily and safely charging a material to a furnace body, and a refining method of a metallic material by using the vacuum induction furnace.
This vacuum induction furnace comprises a vacuum chamber 10 having a material charging portion 10a at its upper portion, a cover body 12 capable of opening and closing the material charging port 10a of the vacuum chamber 10, the furnace body 18 received in the vacuum chamber 10 and positioned at a lower part of the material charging port 10a, an induction coil 20 disposed on an outer periphery of the furnace body 18, a tilting device tilting the furnace body 18 in an upright state at a reference position to make the material melted inside of the furnace body 18 to flow out from an upper portion of the furnace body 18, and an elevating device for moving the furnace body 18 to an upper part with respect to the reference position in the upright state to position the furnace body 18 at a material charging position.
