Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a lightweight vacuum shuttle device that can rapidly moves and accurately performs positioning by providing a vacuum chamber and a lightweight honeycomb platen in which a cell extends the vacuum chamber to an engagement surface under a platen.
CONSTITUTION: A pickup device 38 is a metal honeycomb structure in which a shelf 62 on the outer periphery sits on a shelf support means 60 and positions under a vacuum chamber 88 so that the pickup device 38 is supported on its periphery. A honeycomb of this vacuum plate pickup device 38 is a panel having a hexagonal cell 64 constituted of stainless steel, and this specific honeycomb structure can have a sealed opening area of about 95%. Weight of such structured vacuum plate pickup device 38 is about 1/6-1/7 is weight of a uniform plate typically structured from ceramic material. Therefore, a force required for starting and stopping a shuttle operation of a pickup assembly 16 becomes smaller.
