PURPOSE: To provide a valve seat composed of a sintered body including lead as a lubricant in high temperature in an internal combustion engine, which can maintain the lubricating action of the lead for a long period.
CONSTITUTION: A valve seat 10 is composed of two layers, i.e., a valve contacting layer 10b contacting a valve 2 of an internal combustion engine and a layer 10a rich in lead and sintered integrally with the valve contacting surface 10b. The valve contacting layer 10b is composed of a sintered body having 7.2-7.5g/cm3 of density and lead infiltrated therein. The layer 10a rich in lead is composed of a sintered body having 6.6-7.0g/cm3 of density and lead infiltrated therein. Since the valve contacting layer 10b has the high density and small empty holes, a proper amount of lead is supplied from the surface of the layer 10b when the temperature of the valve seat 10 exceeds the melting point of the lead.
