PURPOSE: To improve the rigidity, strength and wear resistance of the resulting titled alloy by prescribing the amount of hard particles in a sintered high-carbon iron alloy contg. Ni, Cr, Mo, W and Co and the pore volume of the alloy and by infiltrating a Cu alloy into the continuous pores among the pores in the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: This sintered alloy for a valve seat contains hard particles dispersed in the matrix structure and a Cu alloy infiltrated into pores. The alloy has a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.5W1.7% C, 0.5W2.5% Ni, 3.0W 8.0% Cr, 0.1W0.9% Mo, 1.0W3.8% W, 4.5W8.5% Co and the balance essentially Fe. The hard particles are C-Cr-W-Co-Fe particles and Fe-Mo particles of ≤250 mesh, and they are contained in the matrix structure by 8W14vol%. The matrix is formed of atomized powder. The pore volume is 6W13vol%, and the Cu alloy is infiltrated into the continuous pores among the pores to reduce the pore volume remarkably thus increasing the rigidity, strength and wear resistance of the product.
