Abstract:
PURPOSE: To relieve sudden starting of exhaust blow down so as to reduce exhaust pulsation noise by providing a cam by which the maximum value of acceleration in the normal direction on the valve opening side of an exhaust valve is reduced below the maximum value of acceleration in the normal direction on the valve closing side.
CONSTITUTION: The maximum acceleration A1 in the normal direction on the valve opening side is set to 60-90% of the maximum acceleration A2 in the normal direction on the valve closing side, and a position in which acceleration reaches the maximum acceleration A1 on the valve opening side is set to an approximately 20 degree previous to the bottom dead center. As a cam is set so that the acceleration is gradually increased to the maximum acceleration A1, a speed on the valve opening side of an exhaust valve is increased slower than a conventional one. In each of the number of revolutions from 3000 to 6000, starting of exhaust blow down can be changed more gradually than a conventional one. In this way, exhaust pulsation noise can be remarkably reduced in the vicinity of 2000 revolutions and 3500 revolutions or more, and especially, higher components in the exhaust pulsation noise can be greatly reduced.
