Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the vibration and noise generated in a variable compression ratio internal combustion engine having an offset crank.SOLUTION: A variable compression ratio internal combustion engine 10 is provided that includes: a cylinder block 12; a crank case 16; a crank cap 18 for rotatably supporting a crankshaft around rotating axial lines 32 in cooperation with the crank case; and a pair of relative position varying devices 20L, 20R, the rotating axial lines being offset with respect to a center axial line, and a pair of the relative position varying devices varying a relative position of the cylinder block with respect to the crank case along the center axial line 24. A distance Lhl between the offset-side axial line 36L of the relative position varying device and the center axial line 24 is longer than a distance Lhr between the other-side axial line 36R of the relative position varying device and the center axial line 24.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
