In this variable cutoff printing machine, the traveling speed of a web 1 and the peripheral speed of the blanket cylinders 13a and 13b and the plate cylinders 12a and 12b are controlled so as to make these speeds equal at the time of printing when the surface printing region of the blanket cylinders 13a and 13b passes the web 1 side and the relative traveling speed of the web 1 to the peripheral speed of the blanket cylinder 13a and 13b and the plate cylinders 12a and 12b, is slowed at the time of non-printing when the non-printing region of the blanket cylinders 13a and 13b passes the web 1 side. Consequently, it is possible to give no space complying with the non-printing region to the web 1 and change the cutoff length without replacing the plate cylinder or the blanket cylinder.
