The first group Gr1 consists of one biconvex positive lens G1 and the second group Gr2 consists of two biconcave negative lenses G2, a light shielding plate A and a concave negative meniscus lens G3 on an object side. The third group Gr3 consists of one biconvex positive lens G4 and the fourth group Gr4 consists of one negative objective prism G5 whose concave is turned to the object side. Then, zooming is executed by the movement in the optical axial direction of the second group Gr2 and the change in the visibility caused by zooming is corrected by the movement in the optical axial direction of the third group Gr3, so that a conditional expression of 0.15≤β4W/FLWobj≤0.28 is satisfied, where β4W denotes the image forming magnification of the fourth group at a wide-angle end and FLWobj denotes the focal length of an objective optical system at the wide-angle end.
