Abstract:

To prevent an engine stall at rapid deceleration or others resulting from a response lag of a variable valve control system.

While an engine is operated below its output required for a prescribed reliese/load(R/L) characteristic, the variable valve control system is governed to control the opening/closing timing of the intake valve so that the valve overlap of the intake and exhaust valves is minimized. An engine output determination means determines from the engine speed and load whether the engine is operated below the output required for the prescribed R/L characteristic.
