Since the engine operation fluctuation is larger under a condition that the increase amount of the acceleration demand to the engine 1 is large, even in the case the maximum lift amount and the working angle of an intake valve 9 are largely changed according to the movement of the actuator 15 in the initialization process, the influence of the change on the engine operation is not outstanding. In other words, the influence by the movement of the actuator 15 on the engine operation is made relatively smaller in the initialization process.
