Abstract:
PURPOSE:To convert automatically a binary picture to vector data by expanding input binary picture data twice and searching a start point and extracting and tracing the outline to perform the edge processing and extracting vector data and reducing it to the same size as original input data and compressing vector data. CONSTITUTION:Binary picture data is expanded longitudinally as well as transversely twice. The start point of trace is retrieved to prepare for tracing the outline, and a point where the density is changed from 0 to 1 (from white to black) is defined as the start point. The outline is traced from this point to perform the edge processing where edges are not included in the outline in case of stairs-shaped picture element rows but edges are included in the outline in case of picture element rows forming right angles when trace reaches edge parts. After the edge processing, binary picture data is reduced to the original size, and vector data is compressed to obtain a vector data output.
